Abbreviation for Yahoo! Messenger, an web based messenger program used by members of the Yahoo! community.

  Y2K
Abbreviation for Year 2000. The turn of the century posed problems for organizations that use computers and the Internet because many older computers and programs are designed to store informartion about dates using only two characters for the year. As a result, some computer systems were not capable of telling the difference between the year 1900 and the year 2000. This caused some serious problems that disrupted some functioning of computer systems and computer networks, mostly in out-of-date accounting software

  Y2K Compliant
A term used by companies to assure people their product was capable of funtioning normally when the year changed from 1999 to 2000.

  YMODEM
A file transfer protocol that is an improved version of XMODEM-1K. YMODEM transfers data in 1,024byte blocks and performs a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) on each frame. YMODEM also supports sending more than one file in sequence.

A file transfer protocol (ftp) that leaves error-checking to protocols encoded on modem hardware, such as V.42 and MNP-4, and that is best used with high-speed modems in low line noise conditions. ZMODEM is usually a better choice than YMODEM-g.

The collection of electromagnets precisely arayed around the outside of a cathode ray tube (CRT). The toke, which is controlled by the monitor circuitry and video adapter, steers electrons from the electron guns to the propor pixels on the display.
